Everything default settings for new instance

Post by tytn »

Hi,
when I launch Everything in a new instance for the first time, I must/have to reconfigure the main instances. Among other things, Everything changes shortcuts for the efu file, the Start menu, etc. Is there a way to change this behavior so that no changes are made when an instance is first launched, but only after that instance has been configured?

Thanks.

Not quite clear on what you're looking for but...

Are you using the installer or the ZIP version?
(Depending, you might be better off with the ZIP.)

There are various command line settings, like to not automatically add volumes.
Help | Command Line Options

Everything (1.5 beta) can use both User.ini & Policy.ini settings.

The former, you copy the user.ini file into your Instance directory, & those settings will be applied to that instance.
So if you have a global set of settings that you want, you can throw them into a user.ini file, throw that into any new Instance directory & they will be applied to that instance.

User.ini does not actually update the Everything.ini (or Everything-<instance>.ini) file, but the settings are used.

Policy.ini is similar, though the Everything.ini file will be updated.

Everything doesn't change general settings unless you tell it to.

How are you launching a new instance?
Are you changing settings under Tools -> Options -> General in your new instance?

The following options can only be set for one instance:
  • Everything Service
  • Show Search Everything folder context menu item.
  • Start menu shortcut.
  • Desktop shortcut.
  • Quick Launch shortcut.
  • es: URL protocol.
  • EFU file association.
Only one Everything Service needs to be installed.
The Everything Service is shared between all instances.

You'll need to manually create a folder context menu item for other instances.

You'll need to manually create start menu and desktop shortcuts for other instances.
