SUGGESTION: Hotkey to right-adjust long file names in result list

Post by burgundy »

I would like to suggest Everything provides a hotkey which permits the end of an excessively long file name to be seen. By "excessively long file name" I mean one which spills beyond the column width allocated to it.

(1) The hotkey could right-adjust the view of the file name. And this could be done as a toggle.

(2) Alternatively, a hotkey could show the beginning and the end of the file name, with ellipsis dots in the middle. This is already possible for PATH.

Personally I prefer option (1) above.

(1) for a single file, F2 will do that. So F2/ESC is a "toggle".

Thank you. That works well for a single file but sometimes I would like to see a list of complete file names.

Yes I'm very much in favour of a right-alignment option to resolve this problem.

In addition I'd be very keen to see a relative path names column which when you are using the folder tree removes the part of the path representing the folder you are in (with multiple folders, the highest common denominator of the selection should be omitted)

Other option could be text shrinkage or ability to occupy more than one line.

There already is a default hotkey to resize all columns to fit their content, which is CTRL + Num+
It has to be the + from the numeric keyboard, because the combination "CTRL + =" is already attributed to set the UI scale.
Additionally you can replace the default hotkey in the settings, look for:

Code: Select all

Result List | Size All Columns to Fit

The autoresize never really works for me - the problem is it can't read your mind as to what you want to see and invariably resizes entirely wrongly except when everything can actually fit into the screen (very rare for me).

It's not though a substitute for right-aligning which has its own use scenario regarding paths, and also file names that are most distinguishable by their end parts

I should add to this conversation that there's a Parent Name column which shows the parent folder name that addresses some of the issues but to me isn't a substitute for seeing the full path relative to the folder bar folder (ideally with path parts colourised!)
