Display total size of selection
When I select multiple files, I want to see their sum size in the status bar on the bottom.

When you enable Show size in status bar, that should be shown on the right sise of the status bar (or on the left when using a right-to-left language)

As the shown tooltip says: You need to enable Index file size and preferably Fast size sort too (under Menu:Tools > Options > Indexes)
