Everything 1.5 locks folders cant rename

Post by nolan »

HI

i use 1.5b and the problem is that renaming a folder is blocked by everything search however i can rename files in the folder.

If i close everything renaming works fine

EDIT: it seems its *.msg files being the problem. I have added *.msg files to everything search to index content. If theres a msg file in the folder i try to rename its not possible to rename the folder, weirdly enough its possible to rename the msg file itself but not the folder containing it.

Hope that helps finding a solution

Any ideas how to solve this ?

thanks
Nolan

I don't have a solution sorry.

Everything uses the .msg IFilter registered with the system to read file content.
Unfortunately, the default .msg IFilter is holding handles open to files.

Remove .msg files from content indexing under Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> content_indexing_include_only_files.

HI David

thanks. I tried many things and not find any solution either.

It would be really great if this somehow/someday could be resolved, because then i can get rid of windows search completely.

Because its so useful to be able to search everything also msg files copied to folders the benefit outweighs the disadvantage already as it is now.

Its possible to remove *.msg from content indexing and use

I think i have found a solution if others are interested:

The solution in Everything 1.5b:
Tools=>settings=>advanced

1. Click in the "Show settings containing:" field.
2. Type "separate" .
3. Locate the line named: content_ifilter_separate_process
4. Change the value at the bottom of the screen from "false" to "true".
Click Apply, then OK.

The only observation where it does stilllock is if the msg filea are in a root folder and i try to change that name, dont know why. But i dont have any important msg files there they are all in my document folder placed under the user folder and in this case its working fine

Seems to work :-)

thanks
