I thought I remembered that Everything had a way to remember the default dimensions for new search windows, but I can't find it in the settings, and every time I launch Everything or open a new window, it has whatever dimensions the last window had.
Is there a way to set Everything's default window size, or* am I crazy?
*inclusive or.

Re: Setting for default window dimensions?
Update: I found "everything.ini" contains the lines
If I don't intend to change any settings regularly, would it work to set this file as read-only?
window_wide=1685
window_high=1080

Re: Setting for default window dimensions?
Please set your default windows dimension with new_window_command_line:
Adjust the command line options from your shortcut to set the default width and height:
I would avoid making your Everything.ini read-only as it will make all your settings read-only.
Do you open Everything from the tray?
Everything currently doesn't have a tray_new_window_command_line option. -I will add one in the next update.
- In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Advanced tab on the left.
- To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
new window - Select: new_window_command_line
- Set the value to:
-width 1685 -height 1080 - Click OK.
Adjust the command line options from your shortcut to set the default width and height:
- Right click your Shortcut to Everything and click Properties.
- Add a space and the following to the end of the Target:
-config-value window_wide=1685 -config-value window_high=1080 - The Target should now look like:
"C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything.exe" -config-value window_wide=1685 -config-value window_high=1080 - Click OK.
I would avoid making your Everything.ini read-only as it will make all your settings read-only.

Re: Setting for default window dimensions?
Thank you so much! I never would have guessed to set the dimensions as a command line parameter.
That would be great, yes please! I typically launch it via the "Toggle window" hotkey, with the "Run in background" UI option enabled, so even if I close the window it does stay running in the tray. That might fall under the jurisdiction of your upcoming "tray_new_window_command_line" config, then?etl wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2026 8:54 pm Do you open Everything from the tray?

Re: [Solved] Setting for default window dimensions?
You can do it now with tray_show_command_line:
Since you are only toggling the window, this should be acceptable.
tray_new_window_command_line, when added, will apply it to newly created windows only.
- In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Advanced tab on the left.
- To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
tray - Select: tray_show_command_line
- Set the value to:
-width 1685 -height 1080 - Click OK.
Since you are only toggling the window, this should be acceptable.
tray_new_window_command_line, when added, will apply it to newly created windows only.
