Difficult question about specific searches
Re: Difficult question about specific searches
sorry, misunderstanding.
Only keyboard shortcuts, if possible.
If one have to type something, that's not i am looking for.
In the moment it's perfect for me, my question above would only skip some keyboard entries.
Thanks alot for your help and best regards

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
Use the bookmark keyboard shortcut.
You don't have to type anything.
In Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks, do you have a "Search Name in New Tab" bookmark?

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
Yes, all ok, is running fine, thanks a lot!
So, my next project will be my ebooks.
But one question in advance:
Have now 2 Icons on my desktop, one is for my mp3-collection, the other one is for my videos.
Both applications are running completely parallel.
Would it make sense to change between Music and Video in between Everything, but do not know, whether this is possible. This would save one instance.
What would you propose?
If you say, keep it different, then I would like to ask you, to give me a script in order to start with a third instance for my ebooks (same as you did for my Videos).
Thanks a lot in advance for your help and best regards

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
I think you are asking if you can switch instances from within Everything?Would it make sense to change between Music and Video in between Everything, but do not know, whether this is possible. This would save one instance.
-There's no option to do this currently.
An Everything instance is unaware of other instances.
Create a third instance. What would you propose?
Consider using different icons and colors for each instance.
Everything Icon Pack
Themes
To create the eBooks instance:If you say, keep it different, then I would like to ask you, to give me a script in order to start with a third instance for my ebooks (same as you did for my Videos).
From the Desktop, right click and click New -> Shortcut...
Set location of the item to:
Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance eBooks -no-auto-index
Set the name for this shortcut to:
Everything - eBooksClick Finish.
Launch your shortcut.
Make sure Everything (eBooks) is shown in the window title bar.
Re: Difficult question about specific searches
Fine, have my ebooks in Everything.
There are 3 instaces now:
Music
Video
Ebook
Gave the icons on the desktop different colours.
But when in minimize them to the taskbar, the original colours are shown there.
How to change that?
Thanks in advance for your help best regards

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
To change the icons in Everything (and the taskbar):
Copy your custom icon files to:
(eg: the Ebook instance will use %APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Ebook.ico )
Restart each instance of Everything. (File -> Exit)
Copy your custom icon files to:
Code: Select all
%APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Music.ico
%APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Video.ico
%APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Ebook.ico
Restart each instance of Everything. (File -> Exit)
Re: Difficult question about specific searches
hhmm, not running.
I started with this instance, the desktop icon is in green
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance video -no-auto-index
Copied the ico-file to %APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Video.ico.
But, when i open it, in the taskbat is it original red.
and i am surpised the ico file is an executable file, which opens Everythig, might be i made soemething wrong before......
One other point is: Opening the Video instance, the column "Dimensions" is there, but nothing is in the lines, which were formerly properly displayed.
Thanks a lot in advance for your help an d best regards

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
Icon files should not be executable.
I'm guessing you have file extensions hidden and you're renaming an .exe file to .ico.exe ?
Please try the following search in Everything:
What is shown?
If there's any .ico.exe files, rename them in Everything to .ico
You will need to restart Everything after copying your Everything-<instance-name>.ico
In Everything, from the File menu, click Exit.
Relaunch Everything.

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
No, there are no extensions hidden.Icon files should not be executable.
I'm guessing you have file extensions hidden and you're renaming an .exe file to .ico.exe ?
But I deleted the file and copied one of your zip file icons into the roaming folder, this one (in green):
"Everything-Video.ico" ... and the file is no longer an executable file
On the desktop icon, which is green, I have the following target:
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance video -no-auto-index
And the start in is as follows: "C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a"
But opening Everything: the taskbar icon is in original red.
hmm, what to do.
Thanks a lot for your help and best regards
benny
P.S: all other open points are settled

Please see:
Is it possible to chage the tray icon
You could place the “Video” instance in a separate folder, such as C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Video,
to separate the Everything “named instance” from the Everything “unnamed instance”.
C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Video\Everything-video.ico
would cause a different Everything icon to be displayed for the “Video” instance.
Simply drag the “Everything-video.ico” file into the C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Video folder
and confirm the UAC prompt.
Then create a new shortcut target for the “Video” instance and launch this Everything instance:
“C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Video\Everything.exe” -instance video -no-auto-index

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
@tuska, that's running. Have all icons in tasbar now in green, that's fine.
In order to avoid some work: which files should i copy in that new folder, or do i have to make the indexing procedure and all others once again?
Thanks for help and best regards

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
oh, what a mess, my former instances for Musik and Videos and Ebooks are completely lost now.
Especially the Musik and Video stuff, this was a rather long story, what is happening here?
Need help, would like to get my former "definitions!"

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
So, have deleted the new folder Video, and Musik and Video is again fine for me (except the taskbar coloumns)
For my Ebooks I do not understand, i see now always the folders but want to have as search results only *.epub and *.pdf files
Under Tools / Options / Exlude i have defined the above mentioned include only files, but in the view ebooks, the result is zero.
And in view Everything, then are the folders included, which I do not want to see here.
So, first to have this clarified, then (perhaps) again colours in taskbar.
Thansk a lot for your help and best regards

You will still need to index folders, just hide them from your results:For my Ebooks I do not understand, i see now always the folders but want to have as search results only *.epub and *.pdf files

Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
Relaunch Everything.
Unpin Everything from the Taskbar.

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
Everything is not pinned.
Also the file -> exit does not help.
The idea above by @tuska brought me the correct colors, but unfortunately it spoiled my instances, do not know, why.
hhmm, something else, which can be done?
Or do i have to keep it as it is.
Thanks in advance for help and best regards

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
What's the current situation?
Is the custom icon shown in the main Everything search window?
When you right click Everything in the taskbar, what is shown?
What version of Windows are you running?

Re: Difficult question about specific searches
Maybe this picture will help?
Please note:
- user == your username
- Everything was started as user and NOT as administrator (with "Everything Service" afterwords checked).
- Everything was also run as an administrator, and in Everything Options - 1.5.0.1409 (x64) - [Administrator]
the “Desktop shortcut” option was checked, and the icon on the desktop was changed to “Everything-Video.ico”
(as shown in the image below).
In this case, you also had to click the “Advanced” (= "Erweitert...") button in the icon's properties
and then check the “Run as administrator” option (since this did not happen automatically).
