Deletion security...

Post by meteorquake »

I'm one of those people who rarely deletes things, and when I do I tend to shift delete.
However it's somewhat easy to hit a delete key by accident, and the return key is right beside it, so in fact, accidentally deleting and confirming is entirely possible.
I wonder if there could be an option that when set ignores a press of delete unless it is with shift (ideally with the left shift) as that's hard to accidentally trigger and also provides a prompt too. I guess in this arrangement Alt-Delete could also run the normal delete.

The keyboard shortcuts for Delete and Delete (Permanently) can be set under Tools -> Options -> Keyboard ->
File | Delete
and
File | Delete (Permanently)

For example:
Change
File | Delete
to
Alt + Delete

and
Change
File | Delete (Permanently)
to
Alt + Shift + Delete

Oh that's a great point. Delete is such a fundamental thing it didn't come to mind as just being a command like any other!
Have changed it now!

One issue there, that works well for the results list but in the Folder tree the delete key still operates as normal.
It would be great to be able to prevent accidental deletion of folders in the tree also!

Customizable keys for the folders sidebar is on my TODO list.
Thank you for the suggestion.
