When adding a folder to the Tools/Options/Indexes/Folders list, would it be possible to change additions to be added as a background task instead of additions causing the application to hang and do a scan in real time?
Meaning:
Current process flow:
1. go to Tools/Options/Indexes/Folders
2. drag a folder from Windows Explorer into the list OR click Add/Add Custom
3. after new folder is added, click OK
4. Everything application hangs while new folder is added
5. wait for index to be complete: could be seconds, minutes, hours
Proposed process flow:
1. go to Tools/Options/Indexes/Folders
2. drag a folder from Windows Explorer into the list OR click Add/Add Custom
3. after new folder is added, click OK
4. Everything application scans/adds new folder, similar to how it currently does other background indexing
5. continue to use Everything application while new folders are added to index

Re: Drag and Drop new folders
If Everything is hanging, please send a mini crash dump:
To perform the initial scan in the background:
- Download Process Explorer from Microsoft:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer - Launch Process Explorer.
- Wait for Everything to hang.
- In Process Explorer, select Everything.exe (If there is two, select the one using the most memory)
- Right click Everything.exe and under Create Dump, select Create Mini Dump.
- Choose a filename and click Save.
- Please upload this file in a bug report
To perform the initial scan in the background:
- In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Advanced tab on the left.
- To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
folder - Select: folder_background_index
- Set the value to: true
- Click OK.
