Right-Drag to Folder: Menu "Move to new subfolder"

Post by meteorquake »

A common task with sorting things out is to move items into subfolders.
* Can I suggest what would really help with this is to be able to right-drag a selection to a folder and on the popup menu (which only has a few items on) there should also be a "Move to new subfolder" which when chosen pops up a dialog for the new folder name and on committing the dialog the subfolder is made, the items move there, but the search state is unchanged (so you don't focus to the created folder in any way).
* If the name you gave has any / then it could be treated as a structured deeper subfolder to create.
* On the chance the created folder already exists you could pop up what you named with a note that it already exists and a chance to edit your name, if no renaming done it then uses that already existing folder, if name edit done then continues as if you had typed that the first time (so if the new name given already exists then again popup for confirmation etc...
* Potentially someone could also want "Copy to new subfolder" and there would be space for that too. I suspect moving would be the most common.
Cheers! David

Everything uses the system context menu here.
Maybe there's already a third party shell extensions that can do this?

I will consider native support.
Thank you for the suggestion.
