Give us an option to toggle it, so no need to hold ctrl+mouse to select multiple nonconsecutive items.

Re: Suggestion: Add a selection checkbox before name column in result list
I have just started using Everything, and this issue was the very first thing that I noticed.
It's quite jarring to have to go back to the ancient Windows 2000 way of doing multiple item selections. It is so easy to lose selections just because your mouse happened to linger too long over a file (causing it to get selected) thereby losing your entire previous multi-file selection.
It's very frustrating.
I notice that in your reply you said that this feature was on your TODO list, but that post was 2 years ago and the feature still has not been added. Hopefully it can be included in the forthcoming v1.5 that is in currently in development (assuming you haven't already added it as part of your UI overhaul that adds dark mode).
Thank you for making such an invaluable tool free for us users! The performance is amazing.
