Save search string on exit/minimize ?

If I'm not mistaken a search string is saved ( to history ) only when the user presses the ENTER key. Very often I enter a search string, view the results, and then forget to press ENTER. So that search string is not saved. If possible, could search strings also be saved when the user presses EXIT/MINIMIZE ?
