Removing drive from database while it is still connected [RESOLVED]

I bought a new 22 TB archive drive for the purpose of replacing the old 16 TB one which serves as my off-line archive. After connecting the new one and formatting it I assigned to it the letter of the old one - and then when I connected the old one that 16 TB got automatically assigned the first available letter there was in my system. And new it will take me days to manually copy most of the data from 16 TB to 22 TB drive

So the issue is: how do I stop Everything from indexing from scratch that 16 TB - and tell it to only monitor that 22 TB during the copy process? Should I just disconnect the 22 TB, reconnect 16 TB and seeing it got its old letter back manually assign to it a new latter manually? Or can I somehow make that drive being ignored / paused in Everything?

As a start, manually assign a drive letter to the drives in question.
And if that drive letter is "high enough", it will end up being (semi-)permanent.

If it's a Seagate drive, give it an S:.
If it's a Toshiba drive, give it a T:
If it's an Acer drive (throw it away ;-)).

If the lettering is high enough, it may help avoid collisions when you plug in a new device.

After that... (and as you're going to want to "re-use" the old letter once you're done)... ?

To manage what volumes are included in your index:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the NTFS tab on the left.
  • Uncheck Automatically include new fixed volumes.
  • Uncheck Automatically include new removable volumes.
  • Uncheck Automatically remove offline volumes.
    (this will give you full control over what volumes are indexed)
  • For each volume listed:
  • Check or Uncheck Include in database.
  • Click OK.


To stop monitoring of a volume:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the NTFS tab on the left.
  • Select your volume.
  • Uncheck Monitor changes.
  • Click OK.
(remember to re-enable this after copying)



Everything 1.5 has the option to pause monitoring from Index -> Pause Updates.
However, this pauses updates for all indexes.

So, if I am not mistaken, what is "missing" in Everything is an ability to create a blacklist i.e. to plain exclude [temporarily] a particular drive / letter?

I can imagine a scenario when a newcoming user of a given computer does not have high enough rights to change letters within system - but at the same time also uses a lot of external drives of various kinds that need to be indexed within Everything but also at some point in time needs to entirely remove / pause a large drive that is visible within system the user operates on

I don't see any special need here.
A user has always the right to change its index settings.
For NTFS, it's simple to unselect Include in Database.
For Folder indexing, just select "Never rescan"
