1307, Teracopy not working in latest Everything release.

Post by harryray2 »

With the new release of Everything, when using paste or paste to parent folder, Teracopy does not work any more...I'm getting the standard windows dialogue.

This is causing me problems as I rely on Teracopy for file collisions, copying and moving. I've temporarily had to revert to 1306.

Thanks.

Not familiar, but might you need to go into TC again & tell it (again) to take over from Windows?
(But then if simply by reverting... then maybe not.)

Thanks, but it's working as usual in Windows and the previous Everything version (1306).
Possibly a new .ini setting?

Sorry, I should have said it's working in 1304..I didn't bother changing to 1305 and went straight to 1307.

For me Teracopy 3.9 is still working fine with Everything 1307.
If I paste the following dialog comes up for example

I've set my Teracopy to not show the option for Explorer but to go straight into Teracopy.
I've tried it again using 1304 and it works perfectly..1307 just pops up the Explorer option.

It appears to be that the problem is with parent paste...

I tried pasting with hot key but I got the same result, but I then assigned a hotkey to hot parent paste and this worked but of course only on one search result item.

Baffled

Are you pasting into multiple folders?

-If so, Everything 1306+ will now handle the paste with IFileOperation.
Does Teracopy have an option to replace IFileOperation?

I will add an option to disable IFileOperation and fall back to calling the paste verb on each folder.

Thanks David, yes, I'm pasting into multiple folders.

Not sure about an option to replace lfileoperation as, to be honest, I really don't know what that is but I can't see it on any of the Teracopy options.

Is there a chance of adding the option to disable this and going back to the original behaviour asap? It's causing a large headache.

Everything 1.5.0.1308 adds a paste_file_operation ini setting.

To disable move/copy file operations when pasting:
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /paste_file_operation=0
  • If successful, paste_file_operation=0 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.
When disabled, Everything will execute each folder with the paste verb.
This will make it difficult to cancel and undo operations.

Thanks so much for that...really quick. I'll try it out later on.

I'm not that bothered about the cancel and undo as I use undo mainly to monitor what's been done. I assume that there's no problem with Everything showing the changed files?

Out of curiosity, why has this made the operations more difficult?

Just tried it out, appears to be working normally again.

I can't see any immediate problem with undo.

I'm not sure what version of windows you're using, but it seems this version of Teracopy stopped working with the latest Windows 11 build 50% of the time. Half the time, the program crashes as soon as you do an operation. I'm usually copying from within everything, so not sure if that was related.

I'm using TeraCopy 3.9 (the newest version) and it works fine with latest production version of Windows 11.
Also within Everything.

Yes, Everything will detect changes fine.
However, Everything cannot use the file system changes to add an undo operation.

Out of curiosity, why has this made the operations more difficult?
Previous versions of Everything would just execute the paste verb on each folder.
There is no feedback from executing the paste verb.
The paste verb does not support very long filenames (larger than 259 characters).
Everything doesn't know if the paste was successful, cancelled or if the OS pasted with a different filename (appended " - copy").

In other words, Everything will continue to execute the paste verb on each folder, even if you cancel the first one.
Everything will just add a best-guess undo operation and assume the paste will successful.

By using a system 'file operation', Everything can:
Paste really long filenames.
Add an undo operation that will handle all successful moves/copies (even when the filename is changed by the OS).
Allow cancel to abort the entire paste operation.
Allow Yes to All / No to All operations.

This only applies to pasting to multiple folders.

For pasting to a single folder, Everything will always execute with the paste verb.
Unless, either the source filename or destination filename would be larger than 259 characters.
