It looks like you are describing IndexThis :)

Or should it be one command without any interaction? (IndexThis still requires you to export the results to a .EFU file)

What happens with:

D:\Everything64\Everything64.exe -s exact:#filename:"%1"

(the file: is needed to eliminate folders named "everything.exe" or when you search for a file "hosts" and don't want to find folders with the same name.

Not really. I suspect that the one I posted is a little bit faster as it has more anchors (the ^ and $; those are the starting- and endpoint of the filename). But I'm too lazy to test atm ... Strange that it doesn't work with the both of you. Here the command is translated to the following in the Everything searchbar:
exact:"everything.exe" file:

and that reports only files with the exact name everything.exe

I'll throw one more program at you, and if you can get it working right, it may be the most remarkable of all - the Alternate Data Streams Shell . Very nice find! I was just playing with it a bit and ran into the same issues. Without all the technicalities: those were caused by the preview handler....

The "Open With" context menu item was fixed for unassociated files in version 1265.
That would explain it: all file associations here are 'portable', meaning that they are not configured in the registry.

I was still running version 1261, where the Open With entry is missing from the file context menu.
Just updated to 1269 and that issue is gone. Was it fixed or a "happy little accident"?

You should get the UAC prompt when starting everything.exe -svc from a non-elevated account.

You might have enabled one of the search options under Menu:Search (like Enable Regex).
That can happen when you (accidentally) press one of their keyboard shortcuts, like CTRL+R)

Make sure only Everything is enabled and see if that helps..

Yes, that is possible. It requires 2 steps:
  1. Type the following in the Everything search bar and press ENTER:

    Code: Select all

    /hotkey_explorer_path_search=1
