Re: Suggestion for the post - Everything 1.4.1 Beta Nightly Builds

Please remind me, what is the reason that the "instance" option was made necessary in 1.3? I forget the reason but I'm sure it was good. :) I run all of my instances from portable folders so I didn't need to worry about shortcuts until the new version.

Re: Suggestion for the post - Everything 1.4.1 Beta Nightly Builds

THANK YOU for making the new "instance" flags! This has been my biggest annoyance with ES since 1.3. I have portable ES folders on every pen drive and I, inevitably, forget to change the shortcut every time I open it on another computer. A couple of suggestions: Maybe the -path-instance (or -version...

Re: Window Class

Thanks for the reply. I am indeed using multiple instances. However it doesn't seem to be working. Maybe it's because the current search pattern shows in the titlebar? For example my titlebar says: .mp3 - Everything (New) FYI, I have tried: Everything_(New) Everything (New) EVERYTHING_(New) EVERYTHI...

Window Class

What is the Window Class for Everything's open window? I am using a portable program called eXpresso to temporarily modify file type associations on any Windows machine. By default it monitors Explorer but can monitor any other window using an ahk_class. In setup it detects the class by clicking the...

Re: A couple of problems in windows 10.

Alternatively, to run Everything as Administrator you can autostart it by changing the start type in the Registry to Machine Run (WOW64). This is the case for most startup items in Windows 8 and Windows 10 so I use an Nirsoft tool called WhatinStartup and change the startup type (by double clicking ...

Thank you.

Question: when using ETP over a LAN is it open (searchable) to the world or just the local LAN?

FTPS/SFTP is still not supported, right?

The fastest way to search over networks? The most secure?

2 questions for discussion:

What's the fastest way to search other computers over LAN? Is ETP faster than folder indexing?

What's the most secure when using shared wifi (with roommates for example)? Does ETP expose you more than Windows 7 networking?

Re: show only folders that contain any mp3s?

Wow! This is great. I found the thread on macros and filters here and I've really gone nuts with it. Example: I've made macros for TV shows broadcast in the last week, and Documentaries I still need to watch -- by subject. You can do much of this in Explorer but there's always some limitation to cre...

Re: XYplorer Open Path command

All else in Everything's options would be

Code: Select all

$exec("%1")
This is assuming you have ENABLED Xyplorer>>Tools>>Configuration>>Shell Integration>>"Xyplorer is default file manager"

If NOT ENABLED, use the code below. The Open/Explore Path commands are the same as in post above:

Code: Select all

$exec($parent("%1"))

Re: Not able to change Everything's Icon anymore

Figured it out! If you are using Multiple instances of Everything you need to rename your substitute icon to Everything-NAME.ico It should match the name of your .ini and .db files in Everything's folder. For example, if I name this instance "Videos" my .db file will automatically be named "Everythi...

Hi, I can't seem to get my options to stick after closing "Everything." I have tried running as Administrator. I have also tried editing the .ini file directly. I know this is an old topic but I have an answer... In Windows 7 simply expand the "My Documents" library item in your folder tree, right click on the "My Documents" folder underneath it. "Search Everything..." brings up the real folder in this case. Note: At the top of Explorer click Organize>>Layo...

Works exactly as described. Thank you!!!!!! Notes: 1. Everything must be in the Program Files (x86) folder, even if you're using the 64bit version 2. Everything must be named Everything.exe. So if you're running other versions, for example, Everything_NoExclusions.exe, rename those instead of your m...

Re: Someone willing to help with a wild card search?

Actually I think I've figured out another strategy. I can deal with the single-format archives first, then move them to a new folder. Once they're out of the way, what's left will be the archives with multiple formats. I can deal with them in 1 step instead of 12. So I can search for simply (epub) a...

Since 1.3.1 the size of the text in the search bar has changed and I am not able to modify it with Windows theme settings. Additionally, there is now a large white border around it too. Re: [req] Set Everything as search handler from start menu

Great tweak. Thanks!

For Windows 7: Simply rename the Everything shortcut to "Search" and pin it to the Start Menu, and the Task bar if desired (and hide Windows' search button.)

I do wish I could get the F3 key to work though.

Re: [req] Set Everything as search handler from start menu

Your screenshot shows the Win7 taskbar but you say the tweak works on XP/2003 only. So did you get it to work on Win7? Or is your XP modified to work like Win7? Second question: Does XP/2003 refer to XP sp2 as apposed to sp3 released in 2005? It doesn't work on sp3? Third: If running Everything from...

Didn't know about this version until you guys mentioned it. Actually, the first thing I noticed is that the start scan, and rescanning folders, is MUCH faster. On 1.6Tb with 3 OS's this makes a difference! I don't know if I should be skeptical though. I guess it would be wise to play with the two ve...
