Bookmark sometimes is added to the searchbar instead of overwriting it

Post by vsub »

I most of the time prefer the bookmark to be added to my search criteria but I can't figure this out...is this some kind of feature that I don't know how to trigger or a bug

Not sure if log will be useful because I have no idea how to trigger this.

As far as I can tell, a bookmark always overwrites the current content of the search bar.
And that is what it should do (in my opinion).

But I'm hardly an expert (I have only 1 rather simple bookmark ...).

If you make the bookmark a macro (by adding a name in the the macro field of the bookmark, e.g. test), you can then add the macro to your search (e.g. test:)

Does that work on your system? How?
I could not get that working (see viewtopic.php?t=8220 )

Yes it does, at least in the basic case. I have some issues with some of the other parameters and "remember" but I have not yet spent enough time with them to ask about them.

Even in my experience, a bookmark always overwrites the current content. But it would be nice if there was a way to add the bookmark to the current content.
As froggie writes correctly, in this case you can use the macro of a bookmark (or filter). However, adding the bookmark directly has the advantage of being able to edit the content. This is e.g. useful if you have an expression like "dm: 01/07/2014..30/07/2014" (time range or size range).

I'm using 1.4.1.939 (portable version) on Windows 10

I'll consider an option to append the search box with a bookmark.
Something like a special tag <current search> that can be added to the bookmark search that is replaced with the current search box text when the bookmark is activated.

You might find filters useful.

Filters can be added from the Search menu, under Add to filters....

You can have one active filter in Everything.
Filters can be changed without effecting the text in the search box.

Filters can be activated from the Search menu, filter bar (View -> Filters), right clicking the status bar, filter macro or filter keyboard shortcut.
