1 to 2 Minute Scan At Every Startup

Post by jonjonz »

I have been using Everything for a year or so and up until a few days ago, it always started up immediately without a scan. I have been running the service at system startup. A few days ago something changed and now every time I start the program it takes a minute or two to scan my drives.

Have I inadvertently flipped some option that causes this or am I just losing my mind, and just imagining that the program used to start without scanning so long. :D

Sorry it is actually the first time daily only. Is that normal or have I changed something?

Let's check some relevant settings first:
  • Go to Menu:Tools > Options > General
  • Enable Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything
  • Enable Start Everything on system startup
  • Disable Run as administrator
  • Enable Everything Service
  • Press OK Button
  • Completely exit Everything: right-click the Everything icon in the systemtray and choose Exit
  • Start Everything again.
  • See what tomorrow brings.
Some questions:
- what vrsion of Everything
- do you have folders configured under Menu:Tools > Options > Indexes > Folders ?
- If yes, what is the rescan schedule for each?

I ran through your checklist and found I had the Store settings and Run as Administrator wrong.

I also checked and the shortcut I had created to start the program I had also set to run as administrator.

After correcting those three things and reboot, it starts up in a flash now.

I am running version 1.4.1.969 and do not have any folders configured.

Thanks for your help! :D
