Everything, build it's database background

Post by boatzm »

Sorry for my poor english.

Suggestions:
Please allow search immediately when start "Everything"(use old database temporary), and build it's database background, when build over, and change UI hint. Because sometimes we only want search old file not new file. when do it it will get more speed.

Or add one Option to set this function(Is want refresh database when start,
1. auto, 2. manual)

^_^, It's a good software.

"Everything" should only build its database once.

Try increasing the maximum size of the USN Change journals if you find "Everything" is rebuilding the database every time you start it.

To increase the maximum size of the USN Change Journals for each volume:
  • In "Everything", under the Tools menu, Click Options.
  • Under the Volumes tab, for each volume, change the Maximum Size to at least 32768 KB.
  • Click OK.
Or, you could disable monitoring and delete the everything.db when you want "Everything" to re-index.

To disable monitoring for each volume:
  • In "Everything", under the Tools menu, Click Options.
  • Under the Volumes tab, for each volume, uncheck Enable monitoring.
  • Click OK.
Or, use http://www.voidtools.com/Everything1.2.1.389b.zip to search old databases.
This version will never update the Everything.db, even when your hard drive configuration changes.

Also, you might like to try Everything-1.2.1.382dbg.zip, a debugging version of "Everything" that will display changes to your file system.
This might help detect any applications that could be spamming your file system, filling up the USN change journal.
