Along the lines of icons for filters, I would love to see a BACK button that would simply redo the previous search. And maybe make several "backs" available.
I frequently do a search and see the results and then do another search and then realize what I wanted was on the previous search.

Yes it would be great. BUT -and there is always one of those... SE gets its speed by using tables of file names already built into NTFS. The timestamps and sizes you see are fetched (very quickly) for the files you see on the screen (and not any others). I have 1,200,000 entries in my SE search list...

There is an SDK for Search Everything and using that you could easily create the list, but are you trying to list the files on an FTP disk? SE only indexes NTFS volumes directly attached to the system running it.

Everything currently only searches NTFS volumes. I don't know of any phones using that file system. There are plans for searching other file systems in a future release. I don't know what the story could be on the icon problem.

This is a "feature". It knows where you 'really' wanted to start....

I assume you tried it? What were the results? On my keyboard the 2 Alt keys seem to have identical function and when I use the one on the right of the space bar the hot key shows as Alt-Space (same if I set the alt key on the left). What do you see in the hot key setting when you press the keys?

An alternative is to set up a HotKey. I use Win-Z and start Everything at windows startup so it is instantly available. The hotkey setting is in the Tools, Options, General Tab at the bottom. It works for me on XP SP2 and a bit as it is supposed to, but I don't have xplorer2 so I could only try Win Explorer. Maybe David will have some further debugging suggestions.

On the Tools, Options, General tab there are checkboxes "Allow Multiple windows" and "Allow Multiple Instances", Are they both unchecked? If not try that.
I don't know if that will fix what you want, but that is what came to mind.

I don't believe that all page faults result in an I/O to the disk. I could be wrong on this and I can't cite a source for the belief.

When you right click on a file or folder windows wants to load up all the components of the right click menu. files and folders have different components. It sounds like one of the file components was causing the delay. That is one reason why there is a request for copy name and/or path to clipboard...

The only one I know of is that windows 95/98 or DOS won't be able to access the drive without special drivers. Generally NTFS is considered faster, safer and all around better than FAT.There aren't any disadvantages of NTFS over FAT are there?

I have had the same thing from time to time.
Try hitting F5 to refresh the index. If that doesn't bring it up then terminate everything (right click on the everything icon in the systray and exit) and start it again.
